Karnataka: Violence-hit Dharwad remain peaceful

Dharwad, Karnataka, Jun 10: Violence-hit twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad remained peaceful with no fresh incidents being reported from any parts of the city today.

Yesterday, agitating farmers torched three buses and a vehicle of DCP (Dharwad) and damaged about 20 road transport corporation buses protesting against inadequate supply of fertilisers in the district. Police had to lob teargas shells after a lathicharge to disburse the irate farmers proved futile.

Prohibitory Orders under section 144 CrPC had been clamped for three days from this morning as a precautionary measure. Altogether 34 people were arrested in connection with the violent incidents.

As many as 35 people, including three police officers and ten constables were injured when agitating farmers turning violent after a dealer demanded more price for fertiliser.
