Rs 23.6 allocated for agri innovation in NE
Agartala, Jul 24: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 23.6 crore for seven backward districts of northeast under Agriculture innovation project while another Rs 238 crore was earmarked in the 11th five year plan for agricultural research and education in the region.
Addressing a press conference in ICAR, Tripura Research Complex, Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Secretary of Department of Agricultural Research and Education Dr Mangala Rai said under the project, ICAR would set up green model in the clusters with farmers of the region.
That apart, the Centre had also emphasized on education programme in the region, as two new Post Graduate level courses on post harvesting technology and disease forecasting are going to be introduced in the agricultural colleges for ensuring a sustainable agricultural production in the rapid change of climate.
Dr Rai stated that ICAR had also initiated project for fish seed production and development of horticultural productions along because the region lagging behind about 40 per cent of the total demand of fish and horticultural produces despite a favourable climate.
He had appreciated the research activities of ICAR Tripura centre.
