RAU in Bihar gets central university status

New Delhi, May 12: Rajendra Agriculture University (RAU) at Pusa, Samastipur in Bihar has been given the status of a central university, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said today.

In a rare development, the bill to upgrade RAU into a central university was passed yesterday unanimously both by Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on the same day.

"Subsequently, President Pranab Mukharjee signed it yesterday. ...With this, a long pending demand of the people of Bihar has been fulfilled," Singh said in a statement.

RAU will be known as Dr Rajendra Prasad Central Agriculture University. The efforts were on for the last seven years to get the status of central university, he added.
