Rajnath demands special Par session on agri

Jind, Haryana, Mar 16: BJP President Rajnath Singh today demanded a 10-year comprehensive plan document in a special session of Parliament to take the agriculture sector out of the present day crisis.

Addressing a rally, also addressed by the party's Prime Ministerial candidate in the next Lok Sabha polls L K Advani, Mr Singh -- a former Union Agriculture Minister -- said that such a session of Parliament should pass a ''well - researched document'' to take the country forward at a time when food riots were witnessed not just in third world countries but in some of the cities in India itself.

''India requires a minimum growth of four per cent to make its over one billion population sustain without depending on import of food grains,'' he said.

Mr Singh also suggested that the country come out with an Agriculture Budget on the lines of the one for the Railways in order to highlight the importance of food production and food security for the nation.
