Patna to host Intl conf on Science and Technology

Patna, Dec 19: For the first time in Bihar, the capital city is all set to host an International Conference on contemporary advances in Science and Technology from December 22-24.

Principal Secretary of the state Science and Technology department Ajay Kumar said here yesterday that the conference, named ''Scientific Foresight, 2007'' will be organised under the auspices of the Bihar Science and Technology department. ''It is an endeavour to explore the talent of budding engineers and scientists. It will also include detailed discussions on various industrial opportunities, higher education in India and abroad, application of science in agriculture and exploring the opportunities in Biotechnology,'' Mr Kumar stated.

He added that the conference would also include discussions on Information Technology, electronics and automobiles, career counselling, contemporary industrial trends, bio-medical science and technology and an extensive discussion on Entrepreneurship Management and Production Engineering.

''Bihar has been the centre of higher education since ancient times. It was the land of the great mathematician and astronomer Aryabhatta, Father of Indian Surgery Sushrut and eminent diplomat Chanakya. World famous universities, including the Nalanda and Vikramshila, were situated in Bihar,'' he added.

The principal secretary informed that the scientists from across the world, who were expected to grace the occasion, included Dr Waris Shere and Parveen Shere from Canada, Mehmood Khan from London, Liz Ryan, Jessica Wallack, Dr M Omair, Dr M S Warsi and Michael Fremont from the US.
