Sugarcane issue rocks both houses of Parliament

New Delhi, Nov 20: The Sugarcane pricing issue was carried over for the second day forcing both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha to be adjourned even on Friday, Nov 20.

Lok Sabha which was adjourned for the day on Thursday, Nov 19 after the noisy protests from the Opposition parties made it impossible to hold the session, saw similar scenes even on the second day.

Opposition members such as BJP member Murli Manohar Joshi, CPI(M) leader Basudeb Acharia of the lower house demanded suspension of Question Hour to make way for discussion on the situation arising out of the new Sugarcane (Control) Order.

The members of the opposition created a rukus shouting slogans demanding the for withdrawal of the Order. While Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar initially adjourned the house till 12 noon, as the protesters refused to calm down the house has been adjourned till Monday, Nov 23.

Rajya Sabha also witnessed protests from SP members led by Amar Singh. Chairman Hamid Ansari who failed to call the House to order despite many tries was also forced to adjourn the upper house.
