Modi declares Sikkim as the 1st organic state in the country
Gangtok, Jan 19: Accolading Sikkim for its organic farming feats, PM Narendra Modi declared Sikkim as the first organic state in the country. He further said that the state will become the harbinger of organic farming not only in India, but also in the world.
He handed over the Organic certificate to chief minister Pawan Chamling in Gangtok.

Speaking at the National Conference on Sustainable Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok, he said,"Sikkim has paved its way into history and has set an example to the entire world that nature needs care and protection."
Modi is on a 2-day visit to the state and was received by the chief minister of Sikkim and governor Srinivas Patil. He received a gurad of honor by the Black Cat division of the Indian Army and different battalions of the Sikkim Police.
