Lok Sabha adjourned over sugarcane pricing
New Delhi, Nov 19: The farmers' outcries against the new sugarcane pricing was bolstered by the Opposition parties who staged a united protest shouting slogans such as 'kisanon ka loot band karo' (stop looting the farmers) in the Lok Sabha forcing the lower house to be adjourned for the day.
The protests, which were spearheaded by the Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal, saw participation from all opposition parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).
Initially the house was adjourned till 12 noon when the Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav led the opposition leaders to the podium of the Speaker Meira Kumar demanding withdrawal of the sugarcane pricing order.
However, when the house met again in the afternoon the protests continued leading to the house being adjourned till Friday, Nov 20.
