Relief for common man as lady's finger and brinjal prices to come down

Coimbatore, Aug 21: With prices of lady's finger and brinjal expected to decline marginally from the current Rs 25-30 per kg to Rs 22-25 in October, the farmers here were advised to take up the sowing decision and to grow popular varieties and hybrids.

In Tamil Nadu crops are sown during the season in August-September, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University said.

Severe drought experienced in Southern States of Tamil Nadu,

and Karantaka, escalated the market price of lady's finger to Rs 32 per kg. Currently the prices are steady at Rs 25 to Rs 30, Domestic Export and Marketing Intelligence Cell in TNAU, said in its analysis.

The cell analysed the price behaviours in Ottanchathiram and Coimbatore for the last 11 years and came to the conclusion that the prices would be around Rs 20- 25 in October prices at wholesale markets. October will be the harvest month.

Similarly, the brinjal prices would witness a sharp decline in Ottanchattiram from Rs 26-28 to Rs 15-17 per kg, due to maximum arrival expected in October.

However, the prices would continue to hover around Rs 21-24 per kg in Coimbatore wholesale market, DEMIC said.
