Guwahati, Nov 11: The North East Development and Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) has harnessed Israeli expertise for the development of agriculture in the North East.

The NEDFi brought in Isareli experts, who had mastered the art of increasing foodgrain production under adverse circumstances and a training programme was being organised on Post-Harvest Technology in Agriculture by the NEDFi in collaboration with the Centre for International Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Israel.

The aim of the training programme would be to train the experts in the field of agriculture about the developments in the post-harvest technology for using it in the context of the NE, Mr S K Barua of the NEDFi said.

''In recent years, Israel has made tremendous progress in the field of agriculture. Their expertise is now sought by countries all over the world for improving their own agricultural production. The NEDFi's endeavour to bring in Israeli expertise for the benefit of NE agriculturists is going to bear fruit soon,'' he said.

Israeli faces the problem of water scarcity while the whole of the NE has to cope with the flood problem, which leaves a trail of devastation.

The programme will be conducted in two batches, comprising 20 participants each, representing all the eight states of the NE.

The programme is scheduled to be held from tomorrow at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati.

It is specially designed for the academic and research staff of Universities, Agricultural Research Institutions and senior extension staff of the Agriculture and Horticulture department and other concerned functionaries in all the NE states.
