Govt to amend sugarcane policy
New Delhi, Nov 20: Alarmed at the stir that the sugarcane policy has created, Government said that they are contemplating the amendment of the policy by removing the term state.
"A bill could be introduced in Parliament amending the present Ordinance. There is no problem as that is allowed," government sources said, adding that the removal of the term will reduce the burden on state government on paying farmers the difference in amount over fair price.
Protests against the sugarcane policy led to the adjournment of both the houses of parliament on Nov 19 and Nov 20.
The move by the government came when the introduction order for fixed uniform Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) was received with slogan shouting in the House.
Under the proposed order the state has to bear the burden of paying the differences of price to the farmers.
