Farming has become risky proposition for next gen: Swaminathan

"It is a very serious matter and we have to agree to their concern," he said while referring to the feedback he received from farmers during his recent visit to various villages in the state. Agriculture has become a "risky proposition" for the younger lot for the income is unstable, he said.
Swaminathan added that the issue of the younger generation not wanting to adopt farming is of "grave concern, not only for the state of Punjab but for the entire nation" given its contribution to the national food kitty. The scientist, who was speaking at a session on 'Building a National Food and Nutrition Security System,' said the government must address the trend at the earliest.
