Drought hits 161 districts in India: Govt
New Delhi, Aug 11: Finance Minister, Pranab Mukerjee on Tuesday, Aug 11 said that 161 districts of India have been declared as drought hit.
He said, "One hundred and sixty one districts have been declared as drought-prone." He also warned that India was facing the biggest drought of the century because of delayed and weak monsoon.
Mukerjee also said, "The government was sticking to a gross domestic product (GDP) growth target of more than 6 percent and was confident that direct tax receipts for the 2009/10 fiscal year would be surpassed."
