Suicide bomb blast near mosque kills Afghan district governor
The blast occurred in the middle of a crowd that had gathered outside the mosque after a funeral prayer session had ended. "The bomber had targeted Sheikh Sadruddin, the district governor of Archi. We can confirm that Sadruddin was killed," said Sayed Sarwar Husseini, spokesman for Kunduz province.
The district police said that six civilians were killed and over 25 were injured in the blast.
The blast took place in Northern Afghanistan, is a relatively peaceful place compared to the south and east region but Kunduz province has been a hot spot for bombings, targeted killings and insurgent unrest for the past few years.
No group or individual has come forward and taken responsibility for the terror attack.
Taliban militants have launched a spate of attacks in the past few days where with more than 30 people killed in separate strikes on Wednesday.
