Asaram Bapu applies for transit bail; Gujarat High Court rejects plea

as

New Delhi, Aug 30: Fearing arrest, the self-styled Godman Asaram Bapu applied for an anticipatory bail before the Gujarat High Court on Friday.

But in a major setback, Asaram's attempt to 'buy' more time failed as the Gujarat HC rejected his transit bail plea.

As the deadline to appear before Jodhpur police is about to expire, Asaram Bapu, in a smart move, applied for transit bail to evade arrest.

The Jodhpur police sent summons to the Asaram Bapu after a sexual assault complaint was filed against him by a 16-year-old girl, who was reportedly studying in one of his ashrams in Jodhpur.

On Sunday, Asaram Bapu refused to apply for anticipatory bail and termed allegations levelled against him as a 'conspiracy'.

"At present I am not planning to apply for an anticipatory bail, but will take a call on it depending upon the situation", he said while addressing mediapersons in Indore.

Earlier in the day, his son Narayan Sai said that his father has no plans to surrender before the Jodhpur police.
