6.9 earthquake strikes near Wellington, New Zealand

Wellington, July 21: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.9 struck off the cost of New Zealand, rattling cities including the capital Wellington at around 05:20 GMT on Sunday, the US Geological Survey's monitoring service reported.

There were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries after the tremors and no tsunami warning.
