Nivedita house handed over to Ramakrishna Mission
Darjeeling (WB), July 10: North Bengal development minister Goutam Deb today handed over the Roy Villa, a historical house where Sister Nivedita stayed in Darjeeling to Ramakrishna Mission. The house has got damaged in some parts due to lack of maintenance in the last 15 years. The house was handed over for the construction of Nivedita Educational and Cultural Centre. A vocational centre as well as competitive exam training centre will also come up there.
Sister Nivedita, also known as Margaret Elizabeth Noble, was a social reformer, teacher and a follower of Swami Vivekananda. She started the a girls' school in Bagbazar area of Kolkata, which was meant to educate poor girls who were deprived of even basic education. Born in 28 October 1867, she died on 13 October 1911 in Darjeeling.
