Nirbhaya rape case: Bus owner to testify
Dinesh Yadav-the bus owner-was issued a production warrant for Thursday by additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna. Yadav was lodged in Tihar jail after there were evidences proved of his cheating and procuring bus licenses.
Ramdhar, the carpenter who was lured into the bus and looted by the accused was also summoned as a prosecution witness. These testimonies are important evidences to understand what exactly had happened that night.
The summon came in when the police requested the permission to consider Yadav as a prosecution witness as it was important to know whom he had handed over the vehicle to on that night.
On December 17, one day after the incident, bus driver Ram Singh and two other accused were arrested. Following which, another was arrested the next day. On December 19, a remorseful Vinay pleads to the court that he should be hanged.
A 17 year old juvenile arrested along with a sixth accused from Bihar. Delhi High Court sets up a fast-track court on December 23. Police filed chargesheet, holding all the accused responsible for murder, gangrape, unnatural offences, kidnapping, decoity, destruction of evidence, and criminal conspiracy.
Amidst protests from the Bar associations, four lawyers volunteer to represent the accused. On Feb 2, the fast track court charged the five accused with 13 offences including murder and gang rape. AS the trial starts on February 5, the main accused and the driver of the bus commits suicide in his cell in Tihar jail.
