Ahmedabad, July 2: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi addressed Chartered Accountant (CA) students at the National Convention of Chartered Accountant Students here on Saturday.

The chief minister started his speech by stressing the importance of CA as a profession by saying: "It is well known that a doctor treats the diseases but few people know that a CA looks after the health of the society."

He also said that the problem of black money in India can be successfully solved by a CA, adding that black money is not just about currency but involves a black mind.

Modi told his young audience that the responsibility of the CA does not end with counting numbers but also to take care of the country's economy. He also reminded the students that a single mistake in the audit conducted by them will first affect the poor and then the concerned company.

He emphasised on the fact that a CA's signature ensures financial security to an investor.

Modi also advised the youth to do something in life and not just aim to become someone. He said: "When you are going in the right direction, your goal automatically comes near you."

The BJP leader also took a dig at the mainstream media on the occasion. He said he had never predicted that his silence would also become news.

Modi also highlighted Gujarat's sound public expenditure, saying only Rs 55,000 crore were spent in nine five-year plans before he came and he made the figure touch Rs 1,75,000 crore in the tenth plan. He said his government did not levy any additional taxes but only stopped the leakage.

He said while 35 per cent of the expenditure is of non-developmental kind in Gujarat, the figure reads 70 per cent in case of the Centre.

Modi also requested the youth to connect him on social media and asked the students to share their views through the Citizen Journalism section of his website www.narendramodi.in.

The leader released a publication of the board of studies of ICAI to mark the conclusion of the programme.

The students present in the programme later praised Modi as an inspirational leader.
