Maoists attack passenger train in Bihar, 3 killed

The incident occurred between Jamui and Lakhisarai around 1.15 pm and the train was stalled during the gunfire which continued for about over an hour. Journalists travelling in the train said the attackers also included women members. Railway sources said the Maoists wanted to loot weapons from the jawans travelling in the train. Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde later confirmed the death of the CRPF jawan.
Two companies of CRPF personnel were rushed to the spot in the wake of the attack. Official sources said the Maoists fled after the CRPF men put up a strong resistance.
Lakhisarai police sources said the train resumed on its journey after the fighting stopped. The Union home ministry was in touch with the local railway authorities over the combing operation.
Minister of State for Home Affairs RPN Singh condemned the attack, saying it showed the Maoists' desperation. ['Passengers' safety govt's priority']
The Red militants rocked the nation after attacking a Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh and virtually wiping out the top state leadership of the party. Heavyweight leader Vidya Charan Shukla was critically injured in the attack and he passed away on Tuesday.
