U'khand: Cong not to give poll tickets to leader's relatives

uttarakhand-election
Dehradun, April 12: Uttarakhand Congress state in-charge Chaudhary Birendra Singh on Thursday said no relative of central and state leaders of the party, including MPs and MLAs, will be given ticket to contest the civic body elections scheduled for April 28.

Singh said a directive to this effect was issued by the Congress top leadership at the behest of the party's vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi last week.

The state leader said the party was serious about executing the regulation and will see how various leaders including MLAs and top office-bearers bagged tickets for their brothers. For instance, Karanprayag MLA Ayodhya Prasad Maikhuri got ticket for his brother for the Karanprayag municipal board in Chamoli district.

Singh said those who have been given the task of distributing the tickets will revise the candidates' list by removing the relatives' names.
