Delhi gangrape accused wants milk, fruits in jail diet
New Delhi, Apr 1: Vinay Sharma, an accused in the Delhi gangrape case, on Monday filed an application in a fast-track court here seeking milk and fruit in his jail diet.
Sharma's application to Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna said he was a student and it was "his right" that milk and fruits be provided to him during judicial custody.
"It's his (Vinay's) right as a child and student to get milk and fruits," Sharma's counsel told the judge, who asked Tihar Jail authorities to file a reply.
Sharma's lawyer said his client, a BA first year student, had received a letter from the Indian Air Force for a test on April 7 for a Group C job.
He said Sharma should also be given access to newspapers to prepare for the test.
The horrific gangrape occurred in a moving bus here on the night of December 16. A 23-year-old medical student was brutally gangraped and assaulted by Sharma and some other men after she and her male friend took a lift in the bus to get home. The woman died at a Singapore hospital on December 29.
The incident had caused a massive uproar in the national capital and even forced the authorities to make the rules against offenders more stringent.
