No relation between well-being and security of women: Study

, March 8: The increase in crime rate has been attributed to the 'rural urban divide' with mainly urban India being portrayed as the cause for the increase. A study by Tata Strategic Management group shows that there is hardly any relation between "well- being and security of women". The study has concluded that crime has nothing to do with prosperity but with mind-sets.

This is further highlighted by the fact that in Northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Tripura which have ranked ranked low on well being have ranked high on female security. Interestingly, the study has also found that tribal districts in the Naxal region like Gadchiroli and Dantewada ranked high on female security. Even the high conflict zones in the Northeast ranked high on female security.

Raju Bhinge, CEO of Tata Strategic Managament Group, was quoted saying to CNN-IBN, "We found that more than well being, the socio-cultural aspects of the entire region has an impact on female security."

States which ranked high on well-being and female security are Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. Delhi, Punjab and Haryana scored high on well being, but low on female security. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh and Orissa scored low on both well being and female security.
