Guj Ad:Cong commits political hara-kiri by lifting UN image?

Congress Flag
Ahmedabad, Nov 26: At a time when Congress is desperately trying to defeat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in forthcoming Gujarat Assembly Elections 2012, it committed the mistake of lifting an UN image to showcase mal-nourishment in the state.

The picture was used by Gujarat Congress in one of its election related advertisements. Through the image, Gujarat Congress targetted Chief Minister Narendra Modi's government for failing to end large-scale malnourishment in the state.

BJP has alleged that the picture shown in the advertisement was that of a Sri Lankan refugee camp shot by a UNICEF photographer.

The advertisement has now gone viral on the net with pro and anti-messages about it dominating the cyber space.

If the claim of BJP comes true, then Congress might have to face legal action for distorting facts. The Congress has downplayed the controversy saying that rather than focus on the picture, the BJP should counter the figures given in the advertisement.

Polling will take place in Gujarat in two phases on December 13 and 17. The counting of votes will take place on December 20.
