Iran warns of World War III if attacked by Israel

A senior Revolutionary Guards commander, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh has been quoted as saying to Iran's Arabic-language television network, "This war is likely to degenerate into the World War III. We see the US and the Zionist regime (of Israel) alongside one another and we can by no means imagine that the Zionist regime would initiate a war (against Iran) without US support. The Islamic Republic of Iran considers US bases in the region as part of American soil and will definitely target them if a war breaks out."

IRGC commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari also commented that the war on Iran "will eventually happen" and added, "War will happen but it is not clear where and when." Another IRGC commander, Hossein Salami, backing Jafari's claims said, "Iran will obliterate the Zionist regime if the latter takes any action against Iran." Salami, however, assured that they will not initiate a war against any country, but will not remain silent in case it is attacked by any country and will counter attack till the enemy is annihilated.

Deputy Commander of Iran's Air Force, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh also added, "Manoeuvres to be carried out by Iran are peaceful and indicate that Iran and regional countries are capable of safeguarding their security."

Iran's Air Force intends to hold a massive military manoeuvre in the southern part of the country by the end of the current Iranian calendar year - March 2013.

The fact that Israel had threatened air strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities has heightened tension in the area. Salami also added that Iran's "defensive strategy is based on the assumption that we will engage in a war, a massive battle against a global coalition led by the US."
