Amid War With US and Israel, China Extends Relief to Iran and Reinforces Support

China has announced emergency humanitarian assistance for Iran and several neighbouring countries as tensions continue to rise in the region, a move that also reflects Beijing's growing diplomatic alignment with Tehran. Alongside Iran, relief will be sent to Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, with the focus on civilians affected by the ongoing violence.

Speaking at a briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian described the situation as a serious humanitarian crisis, saying that people across the affected areas are facing extreme hardship. He emphasised that China's immediate priority is to provide relief while urging all sides to halt hostilities.

Aid Accompanied by Strong Diplomatic Messaging

While presenting the assistance as humanitarian, China has simultaneously taken a position that underscores its support for Iran. Beijing has consistently called for respect for Iran's sovereignty and opposed further escalation, signalling that it stands firmly against continued strikes on Iranian territory.

Officials indicated that China will keep engaging with international players to push for dialogue and a ceasefire. However, its statements and actions suggest a broader intent to back Iran diplomatically at a time when pressure on Tehran is increasing.

Rising Regional Anxiety

The conflict has begun to impact key infrastructure and trade routes, raising concerns across the Middle East. Tensions around critical energy corridors, particularly in the Gulf region, have added to fears of long-term instability. Gulf countries remain cautious, choosing not to enter the conflict directly while urging stronger action to contain Iran's military capabilities.
