Uttar Pradesh: 150 missing doctors to lose jobs soon

According to a report by the state's health department, the doctors have failed to perform any surgeries in government hospitals for the past five years. It is also revealed that they will be served notices seeking them to explain this discrepancy.
Reports reveal that doctors surreptitiously serve private hospitals, while not remaining present at the place of their posting. The doctors visit government hospitals only once or twice a month, said a report in the India Today.
The patients who visited government hospitals for treatment are advised by other doctors to visit the same doctor in private hospitals, said the report.
"They have not done surgery for more than five years. While they draw their salary from the government, they work for private hospitals. These surgeons are expected to do surgery of poor patients in government hospitals free of cost, but they divert them to private hospitals where they are forced to pay through the nose. Instead of giving medicines in the hospitals free of cost, these surgeons and doctors also send the patients to private medical shops, exploiting the poor at every stage," said UP Health Minister Ahmed Hasan.
"Whosoever joins a government hospital as a surgeon needs to know that they must do four or five surgeries a week. There is a lot of pressure on government hospitals," he said.
"They need to realise their responsibility or quit. Otherwise, we will kick them out."
The Uttar Pradesh government has at least 170 surgeons employed in various government hospitals. The Health department has nailed down the names of 95 surgeons, who have failed to perform any surgeries. Of these, 37 have not even performed any single surgery, it said.
"We are collecting details of all the erring surgeons and action would be initiated soon," said the minister.
More than 3,000 government doctors were suspended by BSP government during its tenure.
