Delhi: Mystery surrounds death of Defence official, wife

Crime
New Delhi, Mar 31: In a suspicious incident from the capital, a senior government official from the Defence Ministry and his wife were found dead in their posh south Delhi residence. The bodies of the couple, Kumar Yash and Archana Sharma were recovered by police on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as 42 year old Kumar Yashkar, who worked as a deputy director at Directorate General of Medical Services under the Defence Ministry. His wife Archana was a classical dancer. The couple had only recently shifted to Transit flats in Hudco Place near Ansal Plaza in Delhi. They were married for seven years and had no children.

The police were alerted by neighbours after smoke was emanating from their flat. The police later realized that Yash's body was badly burnt and his wife's body had deadly bruises. The police after initial investigation commented that Yash might have strangled his wife to death after which Yash set himself on fire. The house was also locked from inside ruling out an outsider's involvement.

The police also added that there were no signs of forced entry into the house ruling out the chances of burglary. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The police has also registered a murder case.

Additional DCP PS Kushwaha has been quoted as saying, "The door was locked, so we had to break into the house. We found the couple lying dead. Preliminary investigations are going on now."
