Sri Lankan media upset with India, calls stand a 'body blow'
"It was only the other day that the Indian government made it very clear that it was opposed to the any country specific resolution at the UNHRC. We thought India had taken a principled stand on the issue," said an editorial titled in The Island 'Muddying the waters the Indian way'.
According to the independent Daily Mirror reports, India's decision to vote in favour of US has left the country in a crisis.
It said that the decision "has seriously impeded the country's efforts to defeat the resolution".
It also says that India's stand had sent a message to those countries which were undecided on the stand, "Hence it could erode Sri Lanka’s vote base".
"India is an independent sovereign nation. It will make decisions based on its internal politics," said foreign secretary K Amunugama.
"Sri Lanka it would seem will be reeling from the shock of this announcement for a few days," said the op-ed.
