Julian Assange
Sydney, Mar 17: WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange is planning to run for elections to the Australian Senate. While Assange is waiting for the British court order on his appeal against the extradition to Sweden, where he's wanted over sexual assault allegations.

Strongly opposing the allegations, Assange claimed that they are politically motivated due to the thousands of confidential documents published on Internet by WikiLeaks.

"We have discovered that it is possible for Julian Assange to run for the Australian Senate while detained. Julian has decided to run," WikiLeaks tweeted.

WikiLeaks has also planned to field a candidate to run in the lower house electorate of Lalor against Prime Minister Julia Gillard in the next election.

Previously, the Australian government has blasted on WikiLeaks due to the release of US diplomatic cables as 'grossly irresponsible'.

Meanwhile, it has been ordered by Gillard's government to investigate whether WikiLeaks had broken Australian law.
