Fishermen Killing:Police custody of Italian marines extended

Kochi, Feb 23: A local court of Kerala on Thursday, Feb 23 extended the police custody of the two Italian naval guards, who had allegedly shot dead two Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast on Wednesday, Feb 15.

According to media reports, court has accepted a prosecution plea from Kerala police and extended the police custody of the two accused till Mar 1.

A murder case has been registered against the two sailors namely Latorre Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone by Kerala police under IPC section 302.

Moreover, the counsel for the two arrested Italian marines argued in the Kerala High Court on Thursday, Feb 23 that the incident had taken place in international waters and hence should be tried in an international court of law and not in India.
