K'taka Mining scam: BSY's fate to be decided this week

BSY in mining scam
Bangalore, Feb 21: The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) is expected to take a decision on the illegal mining scam by this weekend after referring the matter with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as the former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and his family members were allegedly involved in the mining scam.

The Supreme court has asked the CEC to submit recommendations on whether there has been money transactions between mining firms and trusts run by BSY and his family members.

"The CEC will decide on whether the corruption cases faced by Yeddyurappa and his family members were fit to be handed over to the CBI or not by the end of this week and submit its recommendations to the Supreme Court," sources said.

Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa on Monday, Feb 20 had accused the Congress Party of levelling allegations against him in the mining scam for gaining political benefit.

"The truth will be cleared soon, the Congress can defame anyone for political gains...It has put my political life at stake by levelling allegations against me," he had said.

He asked Congress, "Have instances of corruption been probed in Congress ruled states?" And added, "The answer will be found in a 'no'."
