Slamming the state government, the apex court claimed that Gujarat government's initiative to start a probe against Teesta was a "spurious" case to victimise the social activist. [Read: Sadbhavna fast: Relief for Narendra Modi, slap on Cong]
A bench of justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai claimed, "This is a hundred percent spurious case to victimise the petitioner (Setalvad)."
"You advise your client not to proceed with this type of case. You should show some responsibility and tell the government not to proceed with the case," added the bench while bashing the representative of the state government.
Here it can be recalled that the state government started investigation against Teesta over her alleged role in a case of illegal exhumation of the bodies of the 2002 riot victims. The Gujarat government also hurled attack on the social activist as it had lodged criminal proceedings against her in other riot-related cases.
The apex court on Tuesday also claimed, "This case (probe against Teesta) is hundred percent spurious. In other cases against petitioner, there may be something."
