Flight ticket price hiked, DGCA saves Kingfisher Airlines

New Delhi, Feb 21: Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) chief Bharat Bhushan seems to have saved the cash-strapped Kingfisher Airlines from facing more trouble.

Citing the hikes in the prices of airlines tickets, Mr Bhushan on Tuesday, Feb 21 claimed that cancellation of Kingfisher flights left least effect on the fares of other flight tickets operated by rest of the airlines such as Air India, SpiceJet, IndiGo and many others.

Mr Bhushan has been quoted as saying, "We haven't witnessed any hike in airfare by the airlines in the wake of large number of cancellations Kingfisher flights. When there are sudden cancellations like this, then passengers have to buy tickets on the higher fare baskets available in the last hour."

Here it can be mentioned that agencies raised the issue with the DGCA claiming that flight fares in several important roots have been increased following demands at last moment.

On the busiest Delhi-Mumbai route on which the one-way airfares average about Rs4,500-5,000, the prevailing ticket prices of other airlines ranged between Rs6,555 and Rs7,305.

Similarly, on the Delhi-Bangalore sector, one-way fare rose from an average of Rs 6,000-7,500 to about Rs12,000-14,000. The Delhi-Kolkata route saw a jump from Rs5,000 to Rs6,500.
