Jaya sets up high-level group to oversee bypoll preparations

Chennai, Feb 7: AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday constituted a 34-member high level working group, including almost the entire Tamil Nadu cabinet, to oversee preparations for the Sankarankoil (SC) assembly bypoll where the party has already fielded its nominee.

Almost the entire cabinet as well as leaders of party's various frontal organisations have been entrusted with the task of ensuring the victory of party nominee S Muthuselvi, Sankarankoil Municipality Chairperson, in the by-election.

By-election to the seat has been necessitated following the death of AIADMK minister C Karuppasamy in October last. Sankarankoil is the second bypoll after AIADMK came to power in May last. It won its first bypoll in Tiruchi West constituency following the death of AIADMK minister Mariam Pitchai.

Jayalalithaa has asked the party workers to cooperate with the working group to ensure the victory of the party candidate. The Election Commission is yet to announce the poll schedule.
