Sanjay Dutt welcomed to join Congress

Lucknow, Jan 21: Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt who expressed his desire to join Congress has been welcomed by the party.

The actor on Thursday, Jan 19 had hinted at his entry to the Congress and said that he regretted joining hands with the Samajwadi Party.

"It was a mistake on my part to join Samajwadi Party. Inside my heart I am a Congress man... always with the Congress," he had said.

"It was a mistake, nobody forced me. I am out of it. But people of Uttar Pradesh gave me a lot of respect," said Sanjay Dutt.

Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Congress President, UP welcomed his stance and said that Sunil Dutt, his father was a Congressman, his mother and yesteryear actress Nargis was a member of the party, while Priya Dutt, his sister a Lok Sabha member also belongs to the Congress.

Talking about Sanjay Dutt's choice of joining the Samajwadi Party, she said that it was in his personal interest that he joined the party as he was close to the former general secretary of the Samajwadi Party - Amar Singh.
