Pakistan set to detain ex-Prez Pervez Musharraf

Islamabad, Jan 17: Pakistan's government and Mach prison officials are set to detain former President Pervez Musharraf on his return to the country.

According to Daily Times report, the ex-president, who has been in self-imposed exile is wanted in the Nawab Mohammad Akbar Bugti murder case along with his confederates, including former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousaf.

Sources said that, Akbar Bugti was ambushed and killed on his way from Bugti Hills to Marri Hills on Aug 26, 2006. Meanwhile, the son of late Bugti had filled a petition in the Balochistan High Court, seeking court officials to lodge a murder case against Musharraf and his collaborators in the case.

The Pakistan High Court has already ordered registration of a murder case and asked the government to issue international arrest warrants for Musharraf through the Interior Ministry.

Musharraf has also been wanted for trial by the Pakistan anti-terrorism court over the accusation that he failed to save former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto from being assassinated in Dec 2007. Musharraf served as the President of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008.
