Union Cabinet ready to fill up vacancies in job quota

New Delhi, Jan 5: With the announcement of 2012 assembly elections, Union Cabinet on Wednesday cleared the proposal to fill up the pending unoccupied positions for the SCs, STs and OBCs in the central government. The special recruitment drive will benefit 50,000 people.

The central government has decided to allow 4.5 per cent reservation for minorities in the OBCs quota. The vacancies could be filled only after the assembly elections.

Despite the drive was launched in 2008, the central government has accepted its failure to fill up the vacancies. Government's announcement is green signal to the Dalits, STs and OBCs in the poll bound states.

Congress has been trying hard to hold its position in the upcoming assembly elections in Goa, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarkhand.
