Earlier, on Dec 21, 2011 it was declared that according to the ancient Mayan calendar, Dec 21, 2012 marks the end of the world and there were only 52-weeks and one day left for the end of earth. Reacting to the Mayan calendar’s ‘apocalyptic’ prediction, the expert said that apocalypse’ concept is a false interpretation of the Long Count calendar. Reacting to the apocalyptic prediction, a German expert Sven Gronemeyer said that it may be a misreading and he also believes it is simply a calendar change.

Gronemeyer further said that his decoding of a Mayan artefact with a reference to a 2012 date shows a transition to a new era in the 5,125-year calendar. Meanwhile, many Mayans also dismiss the apocalyptic predictions as largely a Western idea.
