TN assembly passes resolution on Mullaperiyar Dam

The resolution was moved by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa which was accepted by leaders of all political parties including DMK and DMDK. The resolution said that Kerala should not obstruct Tamil Nadu from dam maintaining works and made it clear that Tamil Nadu will not compromise on its rights under any situation.
Moreover, Jayalalithaa also alleged that Kerala government's propaganda on the dam was politically motivated and criticised the centre for not deploying CISF. The CM also dismissed Kerala government's claim that an earthquake will damage the 116-year-old structure which demanded a new dam by passing a resolution in Kerala assembly. The Mullaperiyar Dam is situated in Kerala's Idukki district but is controlled by Tamil Nadu government under a decades old agreement.
