Son raided, Deve Gowda threatened K'taka top cop, BSY's aide

Bangalore, Nov 13: Former Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Deve Gowda landed in a fresh row when a senior police official accused him (Gowda) of threatening the top cop over a raid at a residence of Gowda's son, Balakrishne Gowda. The cop, Jeevan Kumar Gaonkar is known as a close aide of former chief minister of the state, BS Yeddyurappa.

Gaonkar, who has been transferred transferred from the Karnataka Lokayukta after taking charge as ADGP only a couple of months back, accused Deve Gowda of threatening him (Gaonkar) and sent a letter to the chief secretary complaining against the Gowdas. Here it can be mentioned that Balakrishne Gowda has been indicted in a disproportionate assets case and has been raided over the same case.

Media reports translated Goankae's letter from Kannada which quoted Gowda as saying, "Gaonkar, I thought you were a good officer. But you had sent 150 Lokayukta officials to raid my son Balakrishna's residence and also to his relatives' homes. You are working like a slave of Yeddyurappa. Don't think Yeddyurappa will always protect you. Beware!"

"He (Gowda) also complained that one of his security guards was being taken away by Lokayukta police to an unidentified location," Gaonkar also added in his letter.

However, trying to clarify his stand, Gaonkar also stated, ""...I calmly told him that I would verify the allegation of Lokayukta police taking away the security guard belonging to Sr HD Deve Gowda's family and politely told him that Lokayukta police are investigating the case referred to them by honourable court in an objective manner. At this point conversation was discontinued."

Here it can be recalled that Gowda was booked over the irregularities while allocating work contracts on piecemeal basis in Krishna Upper Bank Project which had haunted Deve Gowda decades back.
