Prez Pratibha Patil publicises her wealth worth Rs 5.6 cr

New Delhi, Jul 25: President Pratibha Patil has become the first Indian President to declare her assets.Patil owns assets totalling 5 crore 61 lakh 1 thousand 639 rupees. She has Rs 1 lakh 87 thousand 166 rupees in cash. She also owns jewellery worth 31 lakh rupees. Excluding these, she owns a house, a farmhouse, and has invested in bonds and other saving instruments.

The president took up the decision to after the chief information officer, ruling on an RTI application, said that it would set a good example if the president declared her assets. Though it wasn't mandatory for the president to publicize her wealth, she did it on Monday, Jul 25.

The details of her assets are: House in Amravati"s New Congress Housing Society which was purchased in 1985 with a market value of Rs 3,961,515.00, Farmhouse in Bandera worth Rs 982,400.00, Five pieces of agricultural land in Jalgaon, Dhule districts worth Rs 24,39,286.00, Investment in shares: PMS Bank and Pratap Co-op Bank - Rs 325.00, Sant Mukhtabai Sugar Factory Rs 19,400.00, Congress Nagar Housing Society – Rs 2050.00, Bonds: Rural Electrification Corporation Limited – Rs 2,905,480.00, Sanjwani Savings and investments – Rs 66,640.00, Fixed Deposit: Bank of Maharashtra Bandra (E) – Rs 1,198,075.00, United Bank of India Delhi – Rs 3,535,000.00, State Bank of India Amravati – Rs 1,260,590.85, Amravati People"s Co-op Bank Rs 890,028.00, Cash in hand – Rs 187,166.00, Jewellery: Gold – Rs 3,106,250.00, Silver Rs 69,134.00

This record reveals that the President owns a lot less than Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha and also Karunanidhi. Home Minister Mr P Chidambaram declared in 2009 that he and his wife have assets totally worth more than Rs 20 crore.
