Proposal to name planned sports varsity after Bal Thackeray

Thane, Jul 19: A corporator of the ruling Shiv Sena in the Thane Municipal Corporation, has forwarded a proposal to name the proposed Sports University at Kolshet here, after Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray.

The proposal, forwarded by Shiv Sena member Madhukar Pawshe will come up for discussion in the next general body meeting of the civic body on July 20.

However, the Leader of the Opposition and NCP corporator Nazeeb Mulla said that he was shocked to see this proposal on the agenda and said that he would take up the issue with the mayor and see that it is not brought in the meeting.

Earlier, a road located opposite Thane court was named after Prabhakar M Hegde, a prominent advocate from Thane, while he is still alive.
