PJ Thomas seeking to stall appointment of new CVC

New Delhi, Jul 13: The tainted former Central Vigilance Commissioner PJ Thomas is still pinning his hope for a clean slate in his image. Thomas recently met with President Pratibha Patil and requested that she wait for the outcome of his plea in court before appointing the new CVC. He is also believed to have filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking directions to stall the appointment of the new CVC only after the President decides on his representation.

The representation was made by Thomas to the President on Mar 16, and had asked her to refer to the Supreme Court's decision that annulled his appointment as CVC. He has also requested the President for a personal audience to better explain his stand and called for a temporary cancellation of his warrant of appointment.

Wills Mathews, the lawyer speaking for Thomas has been quoted as saying, “Despite our representation to the President and the three reminders that we have sent so far, there has been no response from her. In the meanwhile, the government has already finalised the name of the new CVC. We are requesting the HC to direct the President not to issue any warrants of appointment without first disposing of our pending representation."

Thomas in his representation to the President said that the Supreme Court judgment was illegal and that they could have delivered a judgment only after due reference by the President to the SC under Article 143.

Pradeep Kumar was named the new CVC on Jul 2.
