Helmets mandatory for students in Bhopal

Madhya Pradesh map
Bhopal, May 11: College students in Madhya Pradesh will have to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers even inside the campuses.

Helmets are mandatory for riders in the city, but a special directive for students was issued on the order of Higher and Technical Education Minister, Laxmikant Sharma, sources said.

Instructions had been issued that helmet be made mandatory for students of all the colleges, government and private engineering institutes, polytechnics, ITIs, etc, official sources said today.

Sharma has instructed that college principals be held responsible for ensuring compliance of the helmet rule. This followed a recent spurt in the number of road accidents involving two-wheeler riders.

The Minister has urged the students not to consider wearing helmet a burden as it is for their own safety.
