Manama, Feb.28 (ANI): Nearly 2,500 Indians in Qatar, including 154 women, were sent to the deportation centre in 2010, said the Indian embassy in Doha.

Presently there are 94 Indians, including five women, housed at the deportation center, the Embassy officials told a community meeting.

Indian Ambassador to Qatar Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa told that 262 Indians died in 2009 and 233 in 2010, in Qatar, out of which 29 deaths took place in traffic accidents and 23 at worksites.

Around 432 work related complaints have been forwarded by the Indian Mission to the Qatar's Labour Department in 2010.

Other issue raised by the community members was the granting of exit permits, the Gulf News reported.

A man complained that he was unable to take up any employment, as his sponsor did not get his visa stamped for more than eight months.

The embassy officials told that they have handled nearly 70,000 consular issues that included the renewal of around 33,000 passports. (ANI)
