103-year-old UK woman puts her longevity down to her single status

London, Feb 22 (ANI): A British woman, who is 103 years old, says that secret behind her longevity is her single status.

Gladys Gough from Stoke-on-Trent says she couldn't be bothered with men and has never had a boyfriend, let alone married or had children, reports the Daily Mail.

Instead of settling down, the centenarian traveled the world with her sister, visiting far-flung and exotic countries, and made sure she always ate her dinner.

Staff at Selborne Court retirement home where Gough has been living for the last six years describes her as a 'charmer'.

But the life-long singleton maintains it's her avoidance of the opposite sex, which could be the secret to her long and healthy life.

"I always eat my dinner. I've always made sure that I've eaten well," Gough said.

"I never got married or had a boyfriend either. That probably had something to do with it. I just couldn't be bothered with men," she added.

She was born in Brighton Street, Stoke, in 1908 to mum Alice and dad Harry, a dairy owner and milkman.

Her brother died when he was young but Gladys was extremely close to her elder sister Edna, who also never married and died in 1997 aged 85.

"Although Gladys never had a boyfriend or husband, she certainly is a charmer," Care manager Sharon Rowlson said. (ANI)
