Slain LTTE chief Prabhakaran''s mother dead
Colombo, Feb 20 (PTI) Slain LTTE chief V Prabhakaran''smother, who was suffering from multiple ailments like diabetesand heart problem, died today in a hospital in Sri Lanka''snorthern Jaffna town.
She was 81.
"Parvathi Pillai has passed away this morning and I paidlast respect to her," K Sivajilingam, a former MP of thepro-LTTE Tamil National Alliance (TNA), told PTI on phone fromJaffna.
"She was being treated at the Valvettithurai divisionalhospital in Jaffna where she died," he said.
Valvettithurai, the home town of Prabhakaran, is afishing village north of Jaffna.
When Parvathi Pillai was admitted to hospital last month,she was already partially paralysed. Lately, she sunk into amajor depression and stopped eating as her three remainingchildren, settled abroad, were not ready to visit Sri Lanka,though they were helping her financially.
Her two married daughters live in Toronto in Canada andChennai respectively, while her son Manoharan is based inDenmark.
"I have informed her son and daughters about the deathand funeral arrangements will be finalised after discussionswith close relatives," Sivajilingam said.
Parvathi Pillai, whose husband Thiruvengadam Velupillaidied in January 2010 in Jaffna, was deported last year whenshe landed in Chennai for treatment. Before that, she had beenliving in Malaysia.
After her deportation last year, she was placed under theprotective custody of Sri Lankan military before beingreleased.
She stayed at a lodge in Colombo for a short period untilshe was moved to her native place at Valvettithurai.
