Punjab Govt ignoring Majha region, says Cong leader

Amritsar, Feb 14 (PTI) The SAD-led Punjab governmenthas meted out "step-motherly" treatment to Majha region andshifted all major projects to Bathinda district, a seniorstate Congress leader alleged today.

"CM Parkash Singh Badal has not moral right to conductthe Sangat Darshan in land of Majha, as he did maximum damageto this region by shifting all major projects allotted toMajha to Malwa. Despite the fact that Majha helped the SAD-BJPto form the government, he ignored this region to nourish hisinterest in Malwa," Congress leader Sukhjinder Randhawa said.

Issuing statement on behalf of leaders from Majha,Randhawa said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his2006 visit had announced various projects for Majha region,but all these projects have now been shifted to Malwa.

"The chief minister and Sukhbir Badal, who is claimingto bring development all over Punjab, must brief the Majharesidents that what they have done for Majha or clarify whythis region has been ignored," he said.

The Congress leader also lashed out at SAD-BJP MLAselected from the region for "selling interests" of peoplefor their personal gains.
