PU confers doctorate degrees on Khushwant, Somnath
Chandigarh, Feb 14 (PTI) The Panjab University todayconferred Doctor of Literature to eminent author andjournalist Khushwant Singh for his contribution in the fieldof journalism and Doctor of Laws to former Lok Sabha SpeakerSomnath Chatterjee at its 60th convocation here.
However, both of them could not attend the convocationdue to their ill health.
Singh and Chatterjee will be conferred with the degree ata function in Delhi soon, university officials said.
A total of 479 students, including 351 girls, receivedtheir degrees at the Convocation.
Punjab Governor Shivraj V Patil was the chief guest onthe occasion, which was also attended by Union Minister forInformation and Broadcasting Ambika Soni as a special guest.
